SANDSCAPES

ur trust in the truth of photography, once a given, has finally escaped us with the arrival of AI. In my ‘Sandscapes’ photographs I aim to record natural wonders exactly as they are, abstracting tiny parts of the landscape to give them new stature as sometimes surreal landscapes in their own right. I remove only elements which would otherwise destroy the illusion of perspective, like shells or seaweed.
I discovered the first ‘Sandscape’ images by accident, after photographing sunlight in the water on the beach late one evening, When editing the photos, small unexpected landscapes and vistas magically appeared. I now walk on beaches before dawn at low tide, hunting for small sand formations to photograph with a rising sun.
